Barcelona: the iconic chair by Van der Rohe for Knoll

The Barcelona chair was created by famous designer Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe in 1931 and has since been produced by the Knoll brand. Mies formally granted Knoll the production rights to the Barcelona Chair in 1953. The designs immediately became a signature of the Knoll brand and have been built to Mies van der Rohe's exacting standards ever since.

The cushions are upholstered with 40 individual panels that are cut, hand-welted and then quilted on a single cowhide. Also, note how the back adjusts to the curvature of the overall structure.
